THREE PHASES OF A BELIEVER’S SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

The Bible usually refers to Believers of 3 types or levels in the Bible.

It is important to know these for several reasons.

The first is to know where you are and to know the point you should strive to grow to.

The second is so that you can understand where those you are discipling are.

The third is so that you can train leaders at varying levels and teach them to do the same.

Below is meant to be an OUTLINE of characteristics.  Not so much a checklist as an evaluation.  I believe a person will exhibit a majority of characteristics (although never perfectly) on the list.  Naturally, this is not a comprehensive list but instead some easy to note virtues.  Each level definitely has more characteristics.  Also, certain givens are not listed, like prayer, sharing faith and reading the bible, since these should be present at all levels.

While there are many scriptures on the subject, the two listed below are the foundation references I often use when training leadership, teaching the congregation or leading a Bible Study on related matters.

======

“I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning.

I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one.

I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning.

I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. “

–1 John 2:12-14

======

“Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.”

–Heb 6:1,2
